drawing, painting and machine embroidery on silk and cotton velvet
collection of Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums, Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead
The counterpane and bed were a collaborative commission between Paddy and Toby Winteringham for the Crafts at Home Showhouse at the National Garden Festival in Gateshead in 1990. The co was purchased from the Christie’s Silent Auction at the end of the Festival by Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums for their contemporary applied art collection housed at the Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead.
The design of the counterpane is based on an astolabe and the Copernican system of the planets, and deals with issues of time and the planets through recognised symbolism.
